Outdoor furnace manufacturers are working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on testing standards and with state and local governments on appropriate regulations to prevent and/or correct misuse of outdoor wood furnaces - including burning anything other than the manufacturer's listed fuels and operating with too short of a chimney - to encourage cleaner burning wood furnaces that produce safe and efficient heat.
